    VA Connections: Mental Health & Wellness for Veterans at Truax

    Staff from the VA Hospital & Clinics, Vet Center and Veterans Benefits Administration have teamed up with Madison College to provide convenient care and services for our student veterans. The new clinic, VA Connections, is located in the Student Development Center at the Truax Campus.

    VA Connections provides assistance with VA enrollment, veterans benefits, mental health care, therapy and readjustment counseling, substance use counseling, wellness programming and peer support.

    Starting May 1, 2012, student veterans may make an appointment by calling (608) 280-7084 or by asking to speak with a VA Connections Social Worker at the Truax Student Development Center, Room 159 AA.

    eBenefits Premium Accounts

    Veterans interested in taking a hands-on approach to their benefit information (e.g., eligibility, dates of pay, etc.), should consider applying for an eBenefits Premium Account. Veterans are encouraged to first obtain a Basic Account to expedite Premium Account set up.

    Keep up-to-date on current events and important benefits-related news!  Current, enrolled veterans students will receive E-Newsletters from Madison College Veterans Services through their Madison College student email.

    Health Care Benefits

    The VA encourages anyone who has served in Iraq or Afghanistan to call if they are not already signed up for health care benefits. This could be your ticket to health care through the VA.

    Opportunities

    Veterans Retraining Assistance Program (VRAP)

    The Veterans Retraining Assistance Program (VRAP) will be accepting applications starting May 15, 2012, for training that begins on or after July 1, 2012.  Unemployed veterans may be eligible to receive 12 months of training assistance.

    Veterans must pursue a program approved for VA benefits offered by a community or technical college.The program must lead to a high demand occupation and result in an Associate Degree, Non-College Degree or Certificate. Participation in the program is limited. For information on applying, see the VRAP Application Process presentation (PDF, 338 KB).

    Camp American Legion

    Located on Big Carr Lake in Northern Wisconsin, Camp America Legion provides a place for rest and rehabilitation for veterans and their families. Eligible veterans may include those with physical and/or psychological medical conditions, and those with any type of illness, injury or disability. Families and children are welcome and the stay at the camp is free. Eligible participants do not need to be an American Legion member.     Veteran Work-Study Openings

    Veteran work-study positions are currently available at the Madison VA Hospital. Students must be attending at three-quarters time (9 - 11 credits) and be receiving Federal VA Education Benefits to be eligible.

    Interested students should contact Randall Chipman, located in Building 7 of the William S. Middleton VA Hospital, for availability and details at (608) 280-7073.

    Should a position of interest be available, complete a VA Work-Study application. See the Department of Veterans Affairs web page for access to the VA Form 22-8961 - Application for Work-Study Allowance.
