Student Email Upgrade Status

Madison College LogoAs has been shared previously, on Monday, January 24, the college implemented a new email system for the students of Madison College. This system provides a huge increase in capacity for students to send, receive and store messages.

It also provides many new capabilities to our diverse college community including language translations, access by mobile devices, scheduling of meetings, a global address list of all faculty, staff and current students, and improved blocking of junk mail received or sent.

The Information Technology and Library staffs have done an outstanding job with the transition and are to be commended for their hard work. The library has continued to work with students through this process. They developed a comprehensive website providing information on useful procedures, product features and additional sources for training and information. They have also actively worked with students to answer questions, providing orientations and assisting in solving problems. As the frontline for student contact, they have enjoyed seeing the enthusiasm of the students as they began to experience the many new capabilities.

As occasionally happens in such a major change, there were some operational issues impacting the performance during the first few days. Unfortunately, those issues resulted in some mail being “lost” or an account not activated that should have been. The issues have been corrected now. Any mail not yet received, such as old mail being forwarded from old accounts to the new email accounts, will need to be resent. The Library and Technical Services Help Desks remain available to answer questions and resolve problems in the performance or use of this new expanded service.

Individuals can also reference new email website for any assistance.

This initial implementation is a great beginning but it is only a beginning.

Soon, college staff will begin to evolve this service and enhance even more of the features within it. It is our desire that all students will enjoy the use of this new service and continue to make suggestions for its improvement.
