STEPS: Phase III Successfully Completed

Student Transformation Effective Practices and Systems logoThe Student Transformation through Effective Practice and Systems (STEPS) Program is an ongoing college-wide initiative focused on transforming the student experience. Since the STEPS Program began in fall 2009, the program has been dedicated to bringing widespread student administration improvements to service areas where they are needed most. The enhancement and creation of services and processes continues now and over the next several years, laying a solid foundation for continuous future improvements.

The STEPS Program recently completed Phase III of a transformational business process that focused on upgrading the Student Information System (aka PeopleSoft) to the latest Campus Solutions V9.0. This year-long initiative and upgrade increased delivered functionality that will improve business process efficiency, eliminate numerous customizations to the old version and enhance service to students and faculty. The following benefits have been derived from this initiative:

-Students are able to conduct core academic and student services related business online, via the Student Center. Students have online access to enhanced academic and student services information.

-Faculty are better able to focus on the learning experience, by not having to manage class enrollment activities. Advisers are able to provide more timely and accurate guidance to students so that they can achieve their academic and personal goals.

-Staff will gain more opportunities to perform “value added” activities that enhance the student experience, and have better access to key information necessary to assist students in their educational pursuits.

“One of the biggest wins for students from Phase III is the new student advisement report,” explained Marty Crabbs, Director of Operations for Learner Development. “This represents a significant enhancement over the previous version and more clearly maps out a student’s progress toward his or her degree. Combined with the new functionality of the academic planner, a student can now map out and monitor his/her entire degree plan, program progress, and make changes all via self-service.”
