PT Faculty - Library Resources

The Libraries at Madison Area Technical College provide resources and services to assist you in your teaching and to support your students in their learning.

The Libraries can be accessed from the one of the tabs at the top of the College website. The page is organized in a user friendly way highlighting all seven locations: Truax, Downtown, Fort Atkinson, Watertown, Portage, Reedsburg and West campuses, hours of operation, contact information and staff in the About Us section. In addition to on-site and phone support, there are many other ways to Ask a Librarian including by Chat, Email, Skype and now Text Messaging at (608) 554-4659.

Online LibrariesThe library has almost 40 research databases providing access to millions of articles, streaming video, ebooks and more covering all program or course needs. One of the more popular databases, Films on Demand, contains 24/7 access to almost 7,000 educational videos from publishing giants like PBS, Meridian, and Films for the Humanities and Sciences.

The library also provides access to a SmartImage Imagebase that contains almost 20,000 high quality illustrations and animations depicting anatomy, physiology, surgery, diseases, conditions, trauma, embryology, histology, and other health science topics. Users may download images for educational use in lectures, presentations, slide shows, web sites and more.

Many of their resources can be linked directly into your Blackboard course page or the classroom as additional readings or assignments. To learn more, click on the Instructor Support link which will lead you to information about  library reserves, information literacy sessions, the new media portal, subject –specific customized research guides and HOWLER online tutorials (Help Online With Library Education and Research) which can be used for in-class student training and assignments. One particular favorite is the Evaluating Online Information tutorial. This tutorial can be used with the handouts provided. Then, for example, students can be assigned a review of several websites as a class project.

The Libraries is also the primary computer help desk support for students and they can assist them with Blackboard, MS Word and Excel, researching the databases, student email and more. Call (608) 246-6640 or check out the library website for all the great services and resources available.
