PT Faculty: Blackboard Information and Mentors

Blackboard is the course management software package that the College has purchased. The software provides an online shell into which faculty can add course content. It is available to all Madison Area Technical College faculty and staff. Blackboard is browser based, which means that neither the faculty member nor the student needs any special software for most activities.

Blackboard LogoThere are resources to help you in setting up your Blackboard environment and improving student access. Blackboard implements technology that aims to improve education. We are able to engage the students in new and exciting ways via Blackboard to build a better educational experience. Blackboard can be used for both Face-to-Face and On-Line courses. We encourage all instructors to use Blackboard to post the syllabus, and important course documents for each class taught at the college. One of the most important features of Blackboard is the “Announcement” feature. Announcements post timely information critical to a courses success. The Instructor can add, modify, and remove announcements from the Announcements page. When adding an Announcement, Instructors can also send the Announcement as an email to Students in the Course. This ensures that Students receive the announcement even if they do not login to the Course.

The College's website offers a number of resources for instructional staff.

The link above provides a number of tutorials that can assist instructors who use Blackboard for their course or who want to learn more about Blackboard. In addition, CETL offers Blackboard training sessions called “Enhancing Your Course With Blackboard” and Belinda Prahl, CETL, offers Technology Training Fridays where Blackboard is often the topic of choice. You can check out the training at the CETL website.
