Progress Update on New Phone System

Hello, all.

I wanted to provide a quick update on the progress and the plans for the rollout of the new phone and voicemail system. Since the beginning of the year, we deployed services to the following areas:
• Client Services
• Enrollment Center
• Cisco Academy/McAllen
• Everyone in the Administration Building
• BICS and BPAC
• Financial Resources
• Student Development Center

The rollout process that I outlined in my last update has been working very well, and we’re excited to give even more people these new services. The summer semester gives us a great opportunity to deploy phones to a large number of departments when there are fewer students around. Below is the high-level schedule for these upcoming deployments. The first phase of these deployments is ‘Design,’ and representatives of each area will be contacted to begin those activities well in advance of the deployment dates listed:

• Throughout Summer - Classrooms, hallways, other shared and public spaces
• June 21 -  Health and Safety, Planning, Mailroom, Shipping and Receiving, Custodial, Maintenance
• July 12 - Library, Student Life, Child Care, CPAAC, Bookstore, Wellness and Athletics
• Last two weeks of July -  Faculty offices
• August 3 - Centers
• Mid-August - West redesign and build out, ACE
• September 13 - CETL, Technology Services, Foundation, Development, Grants, Intl. Student Office, Union Offices, Part-time Faculty Support
• October 4 - Events, Welcome Center, Mitby Theater, Catering and Cafeteria, Testing and Tutoring, Security

Remember that these groupings have been created because there is some defining feature that brings these areas together. It could be something as simple as the network closet they are connected to or something more complex like an overlapping workflow. Also remember that the departments will be approached across locations – libraries at both Truax and DTEC will be transitioned at the same time, for example.
