New Interim Associate Deans

    We're pleased to announce that Geraldo VilaCruz and Janice Mettauer have accepted new interim Associate Dean positions within Learner Development.

    Madison College LogoIn Geraldo’s new role, he will be responsible for the oversight of counseling programs and services throughout the district, administering all College Success course offerings, as well as addressing student conduct issues through conflict management services and the BIT process. Geraldo will serve in this role through December 2011, while we proceed with the search process later this summer into the early fall.

    In her role as Interim Associate Dean of College Preparedness and Academic Advancement, Janice will work alongside Chris Vandall on the day-to-day operations of the Center. She will be responsible for the administering of ABE/ESL upper level courses, working with other academic centers on the transitioning of CPAAC students into academic programs, as well as enhancing the college’s ability to serve underprepared students through “Bridge” and accelerated ABE programs. The search for a permanent Associate Dean will begin later this spring into the summer.

    Below are brief biographies that were provided by Geraldo and Janice:

    Geraldo VilaCruz, Interim Associate Dean, Student Development – Counseling, College Success, and Student Conduct

    Geraldo G. VilaCruz Ph.D. has been a counseling faculty member here at Madison College since August of 2000. Throughout his tenure, Geraldo has been afforded the opportunity to heighten his counseling, conflict management, teaching and program development skills via his counseling position. Through his educational, professional and personal life, Geraldo has fostered his facilitation and consultation skills in working collaboratively with others in managing, resolving and/or transforming conflict into positive outcomes. He earned a Ph.D. in Counseling Psychology and a Master’s degree in Social Work from the UW-Madison and a Bachelor in Social Work from UW-Oshkosh. Geraldo and his wife, Sarah, have twelve-year-old twins, Simon and Georgia.

    Janice Mettauer, Interim Associate Dean, College Preparedness and Academic Advancement Center (CPAAC)

    Janice Mettauer has been at Madison College for 18 years. She began as an English instructor in Arts and Sciences, where she started the Writing Center in Spring 1999 out of her office in 260B. She helped move the Writing Center to the Library when it was renovated in Fall 2002 and continued on as the Director until 2004. As part of the Vanguard Initiative, Janice was asked to coordinate the Learner Success Program designed to assist students coming to the college unprepared for college work. This position eventually developed into the First-Year Experience Coordinator. In this position, Janice assists in coordinating and developing first-year programming, including new student orientation; faculty advising; mandatory assessment, advising and placement; and College Success. She is also the lead instructor for the College Success department and teaches the course for the automotive technician program students. Janice has been the Secretary/Treasurer for Local 243 for the past ten years. One of her responsibilities related to the Learner Success Program was assisting the CPAAC faculty in aligning their curriculum. She enjoyed working with the talented and dedicated faculty in this area and is excited about her new role in the Center.
