New and Improved Process for Book Loans!

Book LoansWith the great support and skills of a diverse team of professionals, we're pleased to announce significant process improvements for the book loan program!

Book loans are possible due to a generous donation to the Foundation. The loans are secured against a student's financial aid award. Admitted students enrolled in six or more credits for the term and whose financial aid will not be disbursed at the start of the term may apply for a book loan. Please visit the primary book loan web page for general (student focused) information about the program and frequently asked questions (and answers).

    For complete details:
    a) review the book loan primary web page.
    b) review book loan postings in admin level AskMATC (this will include FOR
STAFF more details of specific procedures) We are still in the process of updating and deploying so details may be added as we trigger this new process for the spring.

Refer students to the book loan primary web page:
Remember, if you need to print a hard copy of the info for the student, use the print button right on the upper right of the site.

    Highlights of the new system:
    1) Students will now apply for a book loan via an on-line application
(only!) Students should be referred to the Library, Student Life, or Student Development Center (at all campuses) if they need to access a computer.

    2) Students must submit as part of the application a detailed list of items
for the loan. Please refer students to the on-line listings for the campus bookstores to collect this information. Students should also be encouraged to review their class syllabus to make sure that the itemization request is accurate.

    3) We anticipate processing of a submitted book loan application will take
ONE BUSINESS DAY. When processing is complete, we will reply directly to the student via their selected communications means (they indicate this on the application). The book loan processor will be Mechelle Mitchell from the office of the Executive Dean for Learner Development in Truax room 159 at (608) 246-6163. Other staff will not be able to check book loan application status while in process.

    4) No more checks!! Approved book loans will be posted to the student's
account via a positive service indicator (BLN). This will show the max amount of loan approved and any other special items (in addition to textbooks) approved on the loan. Bookstore cashiers will access this info to service students and track loan amounts used.

    5) Students need a photo ID to access their book loan in the book store.
Please remind them of this if you have the opportunity to do so.

    6) The book loan program is open during the week before classes start and the first two weeks of the term for fall and spring terms - no summer book loan program. The dates for spring are therefore Jan. 4-22, 2010. After that time, refer students in need to your campus' Student Development Center as the book loan application will not be available on-line.

Emergency loan (not for books) requests should be refered to the Student Development Center for an appointment with a Madison College Counselor. VERY limited funds are available for this associated program.

Any further suggestions you have regarding this process or other improvements, please drop me a note. Our goal is a positive student experience through an efficient and accurate process. New ideas are always welcomed!
