State Representative Steve Nass (R) Whitewater was appointed to Chair the Assembly Committee on Colleges and Universities, a post he has held before. Nass replaces State Representative Kim Hixson who did not win his bid for re-election to the Assembly.
In one of his first actions as the incoming Chair of the Committee, Representative Nass wrote a letter to University of Wisconsin Regent Present Chuck Pruitt suggesting that the "UW System should not take a business-as-usual approach to the request for pay increases," stating that “the fiscal and economic policies of the current Governor and Legislature were overwhelmingly rejected by the people of this state.”
This week the Board of Regents will be considering the recommendation of UW System President Kevin Reilly to request funding for 2 percent annual pay increases as a part of the unclassified pay plan in the 2011-2013 biennial budget.
Nass is a native of Whitewater who graduated from Whitewater H.S., received his B.S. from UW-Whitewater in 1978 and his M.S. Ed. in school business management from UW-Whitewater in 1990. He is a former payroll benefits analyst and information analyst/negotiator. Nass has served in the Wisconsin State Assembly since 1990.
