James Merritt Named Director of Testing and Assessment

Madison College LogoIt is my pleasure to share with you that effective February 14 James (Jim) Merritt will be joining Madison College as the Director of Testing and Assessment, filling the vacancy with the retirement of Sue Carter earlier this year. Jim will be responsible for all testing programs and services at the college including the Mandatory Assessment, Advising and Placement (MAAP) program.

Jim has been working at Community Colleges in Student Development for the past 30 years, most recently serving as Director of testing and career related services at Marshalltown Community College – one of the Iowa Valley Community Colleges in Marshalltown, Iowa. Jim earned his Bachelor’s of Arts from Wartburg and his Masters from Northern Iowa University.

Jim wanted to share with you the following as way of introducing himself:
"I am anxious and excited to begin working at Madison Area College. I will be continuing my commitment and dedication to community college work and to the students. I have been involved with the community college in a couple of different positions for the past 30 years. My wife and I love the Midwest and are looking forward to life in the Madison area. My daughter is currently attending graduate school at St. Louis University and hopes to join us in the area in the near future. We enjoy the outdoors and college sports. We will also be bringing our Newfoundland dogs and a cat."

Please join me in welcoming Jim to the Madison College and the Learner Development team.

    Keith Cornille
