Important Campus Construction Update

As you are aware, implementation of the Facilities Master Plan is well underway. At the Truax campus the construction has begun with the breaking of ground for the new Health Education Building and within the coming weeks the College will begin the additions and renovation of our facilities at the Fort Atkinson, Reedsburg and Watertown campuses – as well as the Protective Services Building, Advanced Manufacturing Ingenuity Center, and the Gateway Building. Details and information related to the projects can be found on our website.
This communication is to inform you that at the Truax campus, construction will become even more active with the start of construction on the Protective Services as well as the Gateway and Ingenuity buildings on October 24th. The building of the Gateway and Ingenuity building will impact the pedestrian traffic coming from the student and guest lots, as the entries into the main building at the Mitby Theatre and Redsten Gymnasium entrances will be closed off as of Monday, October 24th. All pedestrian traffic will be redirected to the south entrances of the building (along Anderson Street). This map illustrates the new pathway into the building.
Prior to the closing of the entrances, our Student Ambassadors and other student leaders will be working in the areas to make students aware of the change as well as hand out maps showing the new traffic patterns to enter the building. To assist students and guests during this time, plans are being made to provide visual indicators of the new pathway as well as the addition of shuttle buses running continuously from 8:30 a.m. to 9:30 p.m. Monday thru Thursdays and from 8:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Fridays from November 1st thru April 30th for the duration of the construction.
As you work with students please share information on the changes to the entrances.
Also, parking will continue to be an issue with students during this time. Although the college has ample parking to serve students with the addition of new lots this past summer, it doesn’t negate the fact that it will still be challenging for students. A map showing students where to park at the Truax campus is available on the College’s website.
Students who live in the Madison area can avoid having to park on campus by obtaining a Madison Metro bus pass, which will be available at the Truax Welcome Center. Students who are enrolled in at least one degree-credit class are eligible to receive a bus pass. Non-degree students may receive a bus pass by paying a $50 fee per semester. More information about the bus pass program is available online.
In advance thank you for your assistance in making students aware of this change. There is no question that during the next 18 months, there will be inconvenience for which we apologize, though in the end we will have a modernized campus that will foster student success.

Vice President of Student Development
