Four New CETL Summer Programs
Fri, 05/06/2011 - 13:52 — kfoster3
We have added four spectacular programs for the summer that your faculty may be interested in knowing about. They have been included in our CETL News Blast but I’m aware that the ”noise” in the environment sometimes precludes the New from actually “Blasting Off.” All three are open for registration via the CETL Registration Data Base. Register Now; Seats are going fast for these programs. Register at the CETL website - Select Professional Development Workshops, #103-PD008A.
WTCS sister colleges, your employees are welcome to register as “guests” for these programs. There is a fee for each program. Call (608) 246-6646 for details.
#1 (1 Credit) Mentor Training Workshop – 2 sessions, June 2 and August 15. A comprehensive training about mentor roles and responsibilities, features new information about the brand new Full Time Faculty Probationary Evaluation Process that will extend the mentors role. If you are filling a FT vacancy this fall you will need someone identified as the mentor as they should attend one of these training sessions.
#2 (2 Credits) The HeArt of Teaching – Compressed version at Learning Academy, May 23-27 at West Campus. This 5-Day version of the popular seminar is designed for more experienced teachers who wish to explore the “who” and “why” of their teaching. Often, the emphasis for faculty is on the content of their subject field and teaching techniques or strategies. Obviously, as the “who” and “why” of teaching are explored, discussion of subject matter and teaching strategies also will follow.
#3 (2 Credits) Process Education Teaching Institute at Learning Academy, May 23-27 at West Campus. This summer CETL is sponsoring the Process Education Teaching Institute presented by Pacific Crest. Many Madison College faculty have been using Process Education techniques in their classrooms for years with positive results. For teams or individuals interested in converting from a traditionally-oriented classroom to one that is learner and learning-centered, this event offers you the opportunity to grow and develop as an educator. Attendees actively participate in a learning community that mirrors a Process Education™ classroom. The three key areas of focus for this 3 day workshop are Assessment, Curriculum Design, and Teaching and Facilitation. You’ll leave this event with renewed enthusiasm for teaching and a strong motivation to mentor the growth of your students and yourself.
