Downtown Changes

A number of changes have taken place at our Downtown Center this summer. The changes were made to enhance our programs and services, as well as to meet the needs of students and the community.

    Downtown CampusFacilities
The Student Life Office has been relocated to room D125 on the first floor near the main student entrance. The move will help foster student community connections and get more students involved at the campus. Student Life staff will rotate to cover the office. Nicole Gilbertson, a graduate student from the Educational Leadership Program at UW-Madison, has been added to the team.

A new English Language Learning Lab is going into D237 (formally Student Life) to allow students to immediately engage in their academic goals. The lab will be equipped with computers and study areas. The lab is the result of process improvement of ELL assessment, advising and registration (designed by the CQI team).

New network cables are installed and will soon be active on all floors. These new "blue" cables will provide faster access to a more robust network infrastructure. Thank Technology Services for the great work in coordinating this project.

TelePresence is being installed in D427 with a two-person unit. This project is on-going and future announcements will detail the progress.

    Staffing
Cigdem (pronounced "chee'dem) Unal is the new director of the Child and Family Center. Cigdem will split her time between Downtown and Truax.

Marty Crabbs is now the Business/Process Improvement Analyst for Learner Development. Marty will help Learner Development units examine, refine, and improve processes to help better serve students. He will also work with the similar positions from other areas (Infrastructure, Learner Success, and Strategic Advancement) to coordinate district-wide projects. As a result of this new position, Marty has relocated to the Truax campus.

Dee (Delores) Okon from CPAAC will now be the information coordinator and campus community advocate. Dee will remain in D209 while supporting these additional duties.

    Other Changes

    • Park-on-us coupon requests for campus guest parking in the State
Street/Capitol Ramp (across Carroll Street from the DT building) should now be routed to Becca (Rebecca) Sundby in the DT Student Development and Campus Services Office
    (room D116).
    • Student Life will assume the role for communicating to students via the display cases, bulletin boards, and electronic notice board system.

We're excited about the many opportunities the changes present for us and the way we serve our students. Welcome to a new year, a new semester, and a new opportunity to continue our great work of transforming lives, one at a time.
