Construction Update

Here's an update on Madison College's campus building projects:
A Cluster of Cranes
Another construction crane is being set up at Truax this week and this is the big one. The tower crane will be bolted into a 5-foot deep concrete pad to keep it secure. It will take a few days to assemble the crane that will stand about 13 stories tall just outside Mitby Theatre. A ground crane is being used to put together the tower crane. Another two ground cranes are also onsite building the Health Education Center.
Weathering the Rain
Just because it’s raining doesn’t mean all work stops at the building sites. Wednesday’s rain surely slowed down some of the work but there was still activity including excavation and setting forms for later concrete pours. Ironworkers weren’t on the job in the rain though. That’s because the steel gets slippery making for unsafe working conditions.
Watch it Grow
Those steel workers have already made lots of progress. If you’re on campus at Truax, do make a point to walk by the Health Education construction site. In just a matter of weeks the project has taken flight and already a 3rd floor steel deck is framed up on the north end of the building. If you’re not on campus, you can keep track of the progress on our live webcam!
What’s a Hoop House?
The folks at Reedsburg campus can answer that question. It’s a type of greenhouse and it’s being built as part of the expansion there. Already the site work for the hoop house is underway and the foundation work for the north addition to the campus is complete.
