Construction Plans Move Forward

Construction for the first phase of the Facilities Master Plan is tentatively scheduled to begin August 24.

The Health Education Building could have shovels in the ground in late August at the Truax campus. Construction leaders say the schedule could be delayed due to weather or governmental approvals. However, they said they were pleased that the process was moving forward.

“We are very grateful for the hard work of the architects, planners, contractors and our many colleagues inside the College,” said Mike Stark, senior administrative director. “All of this could have faced long delays without the excellent teamwork.”

Stark praised John Feller of J.H. Findorff Builders for his role as construction program manager. Findorff operates as master contractor for the projects.

The Protective Services Education Center is slated to begin construction Oct. 26 with the Gateway (Student Achievement Center) and the Ingenuity Center (Advanced Manufacturing) to start Oct. 31.

hard hat next to blueprintsWork is scheduled to begin on other campuses as well, including:

-Watertown Campus Addition and Remodeling, October 31.
-Portage Campus Addition and Remodeling, October 3.
-Reedsburg Campus Addition and Remodeling, October 3.
-Fort Atkinson Campus Addition and Remodeling, September 12.

Facilities and Security directors are meeting to determine if the construction will affect parking for the fall semester. They will share new information as soon as it is available.

The College plans to open approximately 400 parking spaces on the property to the north of the main Truax building that was recently purchased by the College. This will ease loss of space in the larger lot.

A small bridge for pedestrians and maintenance vehicles will be built over the drainage area separating the North property and the main Truax building.

In addition, a new lot will be paved on the south side of Anderson Street near the intersection with Hoffman Street and adjacent to the soccer/softball fields. This could add approximately 170 parking stalls.

Plans are evolving with more details coming later this summer. Please check the Madison College website or Matters for up-to-date information.
