College Budget Update

Many colleagues shared suggestions on how to meet the $10.3 million budget gap for the coming 2011-12 budget year that begins July 1. The Executive Team wanted to update you on the budget.

College leaders were able to identify cuts and efficiencies without involuntary layoffs.

President Barhorst shared in the recent Foundation newsletter, which was sent to all households in the district, how grateful the College is for the personal sacrifices that employees made to pay part of their retirement costs.

This budget plan is based on the proposed budget bill now working its way through the Legislature. There could be some changes after members of the House and Senate debate the budget bill. No details are available at this time.

On June 8, the District Board approved the College's proposed budget. It will finalize the levy and set the final budget in October.

Now it is time to start planning for the 2012-13 budget. Early reports indicate the College will be in a precarious position with an additional $5 - $6 million gap.

The Executive Team and President Barhorst will continue to share news as it develops and are eager to use more of the excellent cost-saving ideas that you can continue to share through the Blackboard site at Budget News>Forms.
