CETL Offering: Preparing to Teach in Active Learning Environments

This is your final chance to register for the CETL Faculty Workshop "Preparing to Teach in Active Learning Environments!" Make sure to register by 4 p.m. Tuesday, August 2! This workshop will take place August 8 - 10 at the Truax campus from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Madison College has embarked on an ambitious plan to create highly interactive 21st Century learning environments across the college. Scores of faculty and staff have been involved in the research that has led us to creating two SCALE-UP (Student Centered Active Learning Environment for Undergraduate Programs) rooms on the West Campus and now a new Learning Studio-inspired classroom at Truax. The new spaces feature the merging of group dynamics, classroom furniture design, and technology that expands the possibilities for learning.

CETL logoCETL is offering this exclusive highly interactive workshop to those faculty invited and for the first 24 who sign up. If you are scheduled to teach a class this year in one of the colleges’ Active Learning Classrooms at the Truax or West Campus, attending this three-day workshop is a must for you!

Facilitated by guests Deb Walsh from Western Wisconsin College in La Crosse and Jon Gaffney, a postdoctoral scholar in the Physics department at the University of Kentucky, this workshop will enhance your ability to develop new learning activities and leverage the possibilities for student learning enabled by the new spaces. Deb and Jon have collaborated to present a workshop that will assist faculty to reinvent curricula and lesson plan activities to enhance the active learning possible in these new spaces.

The workshop environment will be appropriate for faculty at all levels of experience with active learning techniques. During the week participants will create and modify activities they will use during the fall semester. Participants will have time to work individually or in teams to create activities and practice teaching in the new environment.
