Summer Financial Aid

    Printer-friendly version

    Summer financial aid eligibility is based off of the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) submitted for the preceding academic year. Students may request summer financial aid if they:

    • Received aid in either the preceding fall and/or spring semester; and
    • Have remaining eligibility; and
    • Are currently active in an eligible degree program.

    Step 1: Register for summer classes.

    Student must register for summer classes prior to requesting financial aid. Most types of aid require registration in at least 6 eligible degree credits. Students must be registered by June 15, 2012, at 5:00 p.m., the Date of Record for summer 2012, for classes to be considered for aid.

    Summer registration begins in April. Enrollment dates are viewable in the myMadisonCollege Student Center in spring, prior to registration.

    Step 2: Submit a request form and class schedule.

    Complete, sign and submit the Summer Financial Aid Request Form (PDF, 783 KB ) along with a copy of your summer study list/class schedule as instructed on the form.

    Step 3: View and accept your award.

    Please allow three weeks for processing. Award notices will be sent to your assigned Madison College student email account and made viewable through the myMadisonCollege Student Center. Students receiving loans must accept or decline them through the Student Center. See the Financial Aid Award Acceptance tutorial for instructions.

    Should a student not be satisfied with the award and/or decide that they are unable to attend summer classes, they must drop classes prior to the class start date to receive a full refund. Otherwise, students will be billed according to the WTCS Refund Policy. See the Refunds web page for complete information.

    What's next?

    Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP) for the summer is calculated independently for summer. See the Standards of Progress for complete information on maintaining financial aid eligibility. To maintain SAP for summer, students must meet all of the following criteria:

    1. Be admitted into an associate degree or a one- or two-year technical diploma program;
    2. Be enrolled in financial aid eligible courses (course catalog numbers beginning with 10, 20, 31 or 32; required by program curriculum);
    3. Achieve and maintain a cumulative GPA of 2.0 or higher*; and
    4. Complete at least 67% of the cumulative credits attempted (excludes classes dropped within the refund period)*.

    *Evaluated even if financial aid not received while enrolled.
