What is the Student Activities Fee?
A segregated fee is charged to all students enrolling in post-high school, degree-credit courses at Madison locations. This fee funds three budgets
- The Co-Curricular Activity budget
- The Fitness Center budget
- The Metro Bus Pass budget

SAB funded organizations
The Co-Curricular Activity budget provides funding for staffing, programs, and services designed to enhance the educational, social and recreational development of students both in and out of the classroom. The following organizations receive student activity fund dollars:
Athletics ($267,336)
MATC offers intercollegiate opportunities in baseball, soccer, softball, volleyball and men’s and women’s basketball, cross country, golf and tennis. Review the Athletic Department's three-year plan or visit the Athletics web site.
Campus Center ($26,807)
This budget enables the Student Life Office to encourage and provide student involvement opportunities, annual campus cookouts,educational programming and workshops at Truax and Downtown campuses. Review the Campus Center three-year plan or visit the Student Life web site.
Child and Family Center ($15,000)
Support from the student activities fees enables the Child and Family Center to provide affordable, high quality care to the children of students at Truax and Downtown campuses.
The Clarion ($24,397)
The Clarion is the official student newspaper at MATC. All aspects of the publication are student produced, with fee dollars going toward the cost of printing and supplies. Review The Clarion three-year plan or visit The Clarion web site.
Club Council/Club Support ($28,475)
The club council allocates funds provided for club support. This money helps offset operating and conference expenses of about 40 active networking, academic and special interest clubs at MATC. Review the Club Council three-year plan or visit the Clubs web site.
United Common Ground ($18,125)
Funds allocated to United Common Ground cover the cost of providing global awareness, social issue and multicultural programs to students, including the Global Horizons Series. Review the United Common Ground three-year plan.
Leadership ($9,608)
This allocation allows the Student Life Office to offer a comprehensive leadership development program and workshops open to all students at MATC. Review the Leadership three-year plan.
Performing Arts ($53,350)
Money provided to Perfoming Arts enables the organization to offer MATC students opportunities to participate in and observe perfomances of great plays and musicals. Two to three shows are offered each year. MATC Performing Arts offers two to three shows each year. Students are encouraged to try out for roles in the productions, help on the stag crew or attend performances. Review the Performing Arts three-year plan.
Phi Theta Kappa ($10,540)
Phi Theta Kappa is an International Honor Society of two-year colleges. Money provided to MATC’s chapter, Beta Beta Psi, helps offset the cost of membership, conferences, community service projects and educational programs. Programs and Activities Council ($33,990)
PAC is a student organization that plans and coordinates events which enhance the social, cultural and educational mission of providing speakers, bands, noon time programs, and special events. Review the Programs and Activities Council three-year plan or visit the PAC web site.
Student Publications ($18,324)
Money in this budget is used to generate publications that promote student success and encourage student involvement. The Student Planner, Student Bulletin and Beyond the Classroom are three such publications that are designed promote student success and encourage student involvement. Student Senate ($17,400)
The Student Senate works to initiate, encourage and influence policy-making in the district and provide students real and tangible experience as the representative body for MATC students. The Senate makes recommendations on college policy, improvements to the college and school activities, and lobbies for students' rights and needs. Volunteer Center Program Board ($10,500)
The Volunteer Center provides information about community services opportunities for students. See our website at matcmadison.edu/volunteercenter. It also coordinates activities such as alternative spring break, Santa's Wish List, a tutoring program, and food drives. Review the Volunteer Center three-year plan.
Yahara Journal ($7,436)
The Yahara Journal is a fine arts journal published every spring by students at MATC to showcase student work. Money provided through activity fees pays the cost of printing. Review the Yahara Journal three-year plan.
Additional & Supplemental Fees
Fitness Center ($1.00 per credit)
This allocation supports the MATC Fitness Center so that students do not have to pay an additional fee to use the facility. Visit the Fitness Center web site.
Madison Metro Bus Pass ($1.30 per credit)
MATC has contracted with Madison Metro to provide bus rides for all MATC OneCard holders. Although students are not required to ride the bus, the cost is paid for through student activity fees.
