Student Publications

Several publications are made available through Student Life. The Clarion and the Yahara Journal are student-produced publications, while the Student Bulletin and Student Planner are produced by Student Life staff members.

The Clarion

The Clarion, MATC's student-produced newspaper, is published twice a month and has a circulation of 3,000. It is distributed free of charge at each campus. It is also available online at http://matcmadison.edu/clarionline.

The Clarion is an excellent place for students to get experience working at a newspaper, produce articles and artwork for their portfolios, and learn how to work with a team to produce a quality publication. Staff positions are available for students interested in serving as: editors, reporters, photographers, graphic designers, advertising sales representatives, and Web page designers.

To find out more about getting involved in The Clarion, contact advisor Doug Kirchberg at (608) 246-6576 or e-mail him at dkirchberg@matcmadison.edu. You may also complete a student organization application and drop it off at the Student Life Office, Truax Room 140 and Downtown D237.

Christine Rolli, center, and Erin Best, right, work with other Clarion staff members during a summer workshop in the Clarion office. The Clarion is MATC's student-produced newspaper. Although the publication is supported in part by student activity fees, it functions as a student-controlled public forum. For more information, contact The Clarion at (608) 246-6809 or e-mail clarioned@matcmadison.edu.

Yahara Journal

The Yahara Journal is MATC's literary and visual arts journal published each spring. It offers student poets, short story writers, artists and photographers an opportunity to have their work published and recognized by instructors and peers.

Students can submit work for consideration throughout the school year at the Student Life Office in Truax Room 140 or Downtown Room D237. Work can also be submitted by e-mail at yaharajournal@matcmadison.edu. Submitted work will be revied by a staff of student editors, who will select items for publication.

In addition, the Yahara Journal also sponsors several activities suchs as poetry readings, open mics, art shows, and writing groups. To participate in the Yahara Journal, complete a student organization application and submit it to the Student Life Office, Truax Room 140 and Downtown Room D237. For more information, e-mail us at yaharajournal@matcmadison.edu or visit the Yahara Journal web site.

Student Bulletin

Published weekly during the school year, the MATC Student Bulletin contains announcements and information related to student activities, scholarships, and academic information. Copies are available in blue boxes throughout the Truax and Downtown campus. In addition, recent and archieve copies are available on the Student Bulletin web site. For more information or to submit items for the Student Bulletin, e-mail studentlife@matcmadison.edu.

Student Planner

The MATC Student Planner and Handbook was created by the MATC College Life and Enrichment Center to help students achieve academic success and to let them know about co-curricular activities happening on campus. Planners are given free to new students during the New Student Daze events held at each campus. Other students may purchase the planners from the MATC Bookstore or regional campus office for a discounted rate of $3 per planner. If you have questions about the Student Planner, please contact us at studentlife@matcmadison.edu.
