"Mathematical Elegance - The Secret Life of Mathematicians"

Abstract: Mathematics is often sold to students on the basis of its applications: scientists, economists, and engineers all need mathematics to run the world and make the cool gadgets we love to play with. But the truth is that pure mathematicians don't care much about those things. We love mathematics because of its elegance and beauty. In this talk we will see a few problems that illustrate the elegance of mathematics and give some insight into the secret life of mathematicians.

Biography:  Professor Steven Post received his Ph.D. from Princeton University.  He did his undergraduate work at the University of Chicago and he has been teaching at Edgewood College since 1988.
