Adding a Course
Students who wish to add a class must follow these procedures:
-
For as long as a class is on “reserved” status, a student must obtain the approval of the Center (academic) office offering the class.
-
For all other classes, a student may register through the first week of the class on a space-available basis.
-
After the first week of the class, signature of the instructor and approval of the Center (academic) office are required.
Auditing Courses
Degree credit classes may be audited for no credit or grade on a space-available basis by students who meet all pre-requisites. Non-credit, non-degree, and enrichment classes cannot be audited. Intent to audit must be declared prior to the class start date at the time of registration; staff assistance is required to enroll on an auditor basis. A student who enrolls on an auditor basis may not change to a credit basis, or vice versa, after the class start date. Tuition and fees charged are the same as for credit registration except for students 60 years old or older, who are eligible for a
Fee Exemption.
A student must meet attendance requirements, participate in the classroom work and complete assignments but may not participate in examinations/evaluations. Audited classes are recorded on the transcript as “AU” , which is not calculated in the GPA.
Audited classes do not:
-
Fulfill registration or admission pre-requisites.
-
Count towards program certification or graduation requirements.
-
Count towards a student’s enrollment status.
Audited classes are not eligible for financial aid or veterans educational benefits, and are not considered part of Satisfactory progress for financial aid purposes.
Classroom Attendance
Attendance is the responsibility of the individual student. Registered students who will not be in attendance for the first class meeting must inform the instructor in writing prior to the class start date. If the instructor cannot be identified, the student must contact the academic center that offers the course for either instructor information, if available, or to inform an academic center Dean or Associate Dean, in writing and prior to the class start date, of the circumstances for the absence. Failure to comply may jeopardize continued enrollment in the class. Nonattendance does not reduce fees owed and students will be responsible for tuition and fees not paid.
Policies for attendance and make-up work for absences are either outlined in the syllabus for each course or otherwise communicated by the instructor/program.
"Officially Attempted"
“Officially attempted” means that the student was enrolled in class after 20 percent of the course’s potential hours of instruction were completed.
Study load
A full-time student in an associate degree program may take a maximum of 18 credit hours. Students wishing to exceed maximum credit hours should seek approval from the academic Dean of their program Center. A student who is carrying a 12-hour credit load or is in classroom attendance twenty periods per week is considered a full-time student.
Fee transfer for dropped courses (SWAP)
Please note that during the first 14 calendar days of the semester (first 7 days of summer session), students may transfer 100% of the fees from a dropped credit class toward an added credit class only if the add and drop are done through enrollment staff assistance and at the same time. Visit the Enrollment Center at any campus to make necessary schedule changes. For more information, review the Refund Policies. Students are encouraged to talk with an advisor or counselor before dropping classes to ensure there are no consequences to a program of study or financial aid if courses are dropped after class meetings have begun.
Meet with an advisor
Academic Advising Services are available for registered students not enrolled in an occupational program and for students enrolled in the Liberal Arts Transfer Program. Professional advisors are available for walk-ins and appointments to help students choose courses, schedule classes and plan their academic program. Assistance is also available for students interested in transferring to a four-year institution. Some students may be referred to specific program Center offices. Students enrolled in occupational programs who would like academic advising should contact the respective program Center office.
