
Visual Communications
About
The Visual Communications Program provides training in the areas of art and design for various types of presentation media. Multimedia design and production, webpage design and video production are the main areas of focus. The Visual Communications program brings together the design and production of a variety of media to meet today's communication needs.
Computer graphics, including photographic digital imaging, page layout, audio production techniques and computer animation techniques are an integral part of visual communications. Presentations are designed to run on the computer screen or be projected for audiences with large screen computer projection systems.
Students interested in the field should have a strong interest in art and computer presentations along with an aptitude for problem solving and excellent aesthetic judgment.
Graduates of the program are employed in a variety of production areas, including business, industry, government, schools, health care, TV stations and independent production companies.
Admissions
Requirements for Program Application
The following is required to process your application:
- High School transcript - or
- HSED/GED Test Scores - or
- College transcript showing an Associate Degree, Bachelor's or higher Degree
Requirements for Program Eligibility for the Current Academic Year
The following are required to be eligible for the program*:
- 2.0 GPA or above.
- Attendance at Summer Orientation session.
*This program potentially has a 1-year waiting list. Visual Communications core program courses cannot be taken until officially admitted off the waiting list and into the program. Students are encouraged to take general studies requirements while waiting.
Fall 2010
For this program applications and credentials must be received by July 1st, 2010 to be considered for the fall semester.
Program Outcomes
- Incorporate traditional/fundamental design skills and concepts including drawing, perspective, color and layout in the creation of visual media.
- Incorporate new media skills including digital design concepts, digital video, animation, web, and interactive in the creation of visual media.
- Apply basic operation skills for Computers.
- Choose appropriate media technologies to effectively plan, manage time and resources and produce digital media projects.
- Work effectively as a team member demonstrating dependability, flexibility, communication and management skills.
- Develop critical thinking and self-motivated learning abilities to expand professional growth skills.
- Prepare for working in a professional environment as an entry-level employee.
Employment
A grade of "C" or higher is required for all core (program specific) courses to graduate.
