
Meeting and Event Management
About
The Meeting and Event Management Program is designed to prepare students for highly responsible positions in the convention, conference and meeting planning industry. Students develop negotiation, decision-making, problem-solving and communication skills as well as learn about contract law, facilities, financial management and related areas of convention, conference and meeting management.
Major responsibilities of those employed in the meeting and event management industry include: On-site Management, Marketing, Client and Vendor Relations, Contracts and Risk Management, Program Development, Budgeting, and Coordination of Logistics.
Graduates may be employed by professional associations, corporations, conference centers, hotels, resorts and special event venues.
This program is endorsed by Meeting Professionals International - Wisconsin Chapter, a community of the world's largest professional organization for meeting professionals.
Admissions
Requirements for Program Application
The following is required to process your application:
- High School transcript - or
- Completed COMPASS - or
- HSED/GED Test Scores - or
- College transcript showing an Associate's, Bachelor's or higher degree from an institution other than Madison College
Fall 2012
Madison College begins collecting applications for the following year's fall semester on September 1, 2011. For this program applications must be received by August 31, 2012, to be considered for the fall semester. All supporting documentation (transcripts, test scores, etc.) must be received by September 15, 2012.
Spring 2013
Madison College begins collecting applications for the following year's spring semester on January 16, 2012. For this program applications must be received by January 15, 2013, to be considered for the spring semester. All supporting documentation (transcripts, test scores, etc.) must be received by February 2, 2013.

- Assemble a meeting request for proposal.
- Create meeting timeline and checklist.
- Determine important criteria in selecting a facility.
- Design learner outcomes.
- Construct a meeting budget.
- Discover critical negotiation techniques.
- Analyze facility contracts.
- Discover crisis management strategies.
- Identify housing, registration, and transportation tools and strategies.
- Determine critical elements in coordinating a trade show.
- Critique meeting room seating styles and their affects on the meeting.
- Select appropriate options to save money on food & beverage functions.
- Demonstrate professional practices used to plan and implement incentive programs and special events.
- Analyze a meeting to identify sponsorship and fundraising opportunities.
Employment
A grade of "C" or higher is required for all core (program specific) courses to graduate.
