About
This certificate program was designed in collaboration with industry partners for individuals who already have a Bachelor's Degree in a biological science and want to improve their employability in the biotechnology industry. The intensive program is offered full-time, 8:30am to 2:30 pm, daily, in the Spring Semester. It provides practical, advanced laboratory skills and an introduction to the business of biotechnology.
Admission is competitive and participants must agree to participate fully in all activities and field trips. The curriculum is project-based and team oriented to simulate a biotechnology company environment. Each student will also complete an independent project that is presented in a poster fair to colleagues and potential employers.

Admissions Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in biological science
- Consent of program director
- Two semesters of college chemistry
- Microbiology course with laboratory
- Two semesters of general biology
- Cell biology or genetics course within the last 7 years
Certificate Eligibility
To earn a certificate, you need to apply for admission. A grade of C or better is required in each course to award the certificate. No more than 50% of the certificate credits may be through advanced standing.
Online Certificate Application
Create an ApplyWeb account and follow the instructions to complete the Online Certificate Application. Submit the $15 non-refundable fee (payable by credit card, debit card or electronic check) with your application. Applicants may submit more than one certificate application per term using the Online Certificate Application; the same fees apply for each additional application.
Paper Certificate Application
You can request a paper application from the Enrollment Center at (608) 246-6210. Submit the $15 non-refundable fee (payable by check or money order) with your application. Effective January 1, 2011, the non-refundable paper certificate application fee will be $20. Please note: using a paper application can delay the processing of your admission application additional two weeks.
Requirements for Certificate Application
In addition to the application, the applicant should submit transcripts of college coursework including verification that a bachelor's degree in a biological science was earned.
