    About

    The architectural area is broad and challenging. It is the purpose of the architect and/or consulting engineer to supply owners with a set of plans and specifications of the structure desired. The architectural technician assists the architect or engineer in the development of plans and specifications, and while in the field, checks on building compliance with the contract documents.

    The following is required to process your application:

    • HSED/GED Test Scores - or

    Admission Processing Deadlines: 

    Fall 2010

    MATC begins collecting applications for the following year's Fall term on September 1st.  The Admissions Office will then begin processing those applications on the 3rd Monday in October. (Effective for the fall of 2010).

    Program Outcomes

    Program Outcomes: 
    1. Demonstrate CAD skills using Industry-standard software commensurate with an AEC project.
    2. Interpret construction drawings and specifications.
    3. Demonstrate basic knowledge and understanding of building codes and their applications to ensure the health, safety, and welfare of the building occupants.
    4. Communicate technical/design information clearly and professionally to peers, supervisors and clients.
    5. Ability to draw commonly accepted architectural details and sections for various materials.
    6. Apply math skills commensurate with performing basic design and structural calculations and material take offs.
    7. Apply general computer skills: word processing, spreadsheets, file management, and other programs as applied to architectural work.
    8. Work as a team member by demonstrating good communication and listening skills, cooperation, and providing a supportive environment.
    9. Apply a working knowledge of structural, heating, plumbing, electrical and other mechanical systems within a building.
    10. Communicate clearly and professionally in both written and oral communications to peers, supervisors, and clients, using positive interpersonal skills including but not limited to, empathy, active listening, and flexibility.

    Graduation Requirements: 

    Graduation requirements: 68 credits and a GPA of 2.0 (C) or above; average of 2.0 (C) or above required to occupational specific courses.

    Additional Info

    Additional Info about the Program: 

    The Architectural Technician Program participates in MAAP (Mandatory Assessment, Advising and Placement). This requires new students to complete the COMPASS test prior to enrollment. Advisement and course placement in English and math is done based on test results.

    Interested in a Bachelor's Degree?

    In addition to the two-year Associate Degree, a program-to-program articulation agreement has been developed for a potential transfer into the Bachelor of Science in Architectural Studies (BSAS) at UW-Milwaukee. Successful completion of our program could make a student eligible to transfer with junior status into the BSAS program. Students are required to meet with the program director for advising and course scheduling plans.
