President's Message: September 29, 2011

    Dear Faculty and Staff:

    Groundbreaking CeremonyI have received many compliments from community leaders about last Wednesday’s Groundbreaking and Centennial festivities, wishing us well as we move into a new century of educating and training workers for the workforce. Thanks again to all who participated.

    Recent Activities
    • Participated in a ribbon cutting ceremony for the new WorkSmart Access Point service locations in the South Madison community;
    • Roger Price and I had lunch with City Alder Tim Bruer;
    • interviewed a candidate for the Senior Development Officer position at the Foundation;
    • attended a reception for Thrive at the Madison Club;
    • participated in a United Way of Dane County Board meeting;
    • attended a WisPolitics luncheon where Congresswoman Tammy Baldwin discussed the federal budget, debt and 2012 U.S. senate race; and
    • participated in a cluster industry meeting hosted by Competitive Wisconsin at the Alliant Energy Center.

    In closing, I leave you with a quote from Milton Berle that I saw in the program for the high school completion ceremony this May:

    “If opportunity doesn’t knock, build a door.”
