
President's Biography
Bettsey L. Barhorst was appointed president of Madison Area Technical College, Madison, Wisconsin, in November of 2004. Prior to being named president, she was president at Hawkeye Community College in Waterloo, Iowa since 2001 and also served in leadership positions during her 25 years with Illinois Central College in Peoria, Illinois.
Currently, Dr. Barhorst serves on the Greater Madison Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors, United Way of Dane County Board of Directors, the Biopharmaceutical Technology Center Institute Board of Directors, Schools of Hope Leadership Team, and is a member of the Rotary Club of Madison, and TEMPO-Madison.
She is a recipient of the Shirley B. Gordon Award of Distinction from Phi Theta Kappa, the Athena Award, Illinois State University College of Education Alumni Hall of Fame recognition, and the American Association of Women in Community Colleges – Illinois Central College Chapter Jewel Award. Dr. Barhorst received her: Ph.D. at Illinois State University, Educational Administration and Foundations (Higher Education); M.A., Webster University-Geneva, Management and Human Resource Development; M.A. Bradley University, Speech Communication and Theatre; B.A., Fontbonne College, Speech and Theatre.
