    Writing is a Process

Despite what you may have heard (or done in the past) good writing involves more than waiting for divine inspiration to strike (or until the night before the assignment is due), and then sitting down, cranking out a paper in a single sitting, and turning it in still hot from the printer. Professional writers, despite having a lot more skill and experience than most college students, wouldn’t dream of trying this. Why would you think it will work for you?

Instead, effective writing involves going through a process of planning, drafting, revising, editing, and proofreading. Each step is vital. And here’s the best part—though following these steps may take a bit more time, they will make writing a paper easier. Not to mention the final product—the paper you turn in—will be much better!
