The Writing Center’s primary mission is to help members of the Madison College  community become more effective, confident, and successful writers.

    Spring 2012

Welcome back!  The Writing Center is open for business.  The beginning of the semester is always a great time to drop in and get a head start on your writing projects.

    Hours and Locations

We're open for face-to-face tutoring at eight Madison College campuses.  To make an appointment, stop by the Center you'd like to visit and sign up for a time slot.  Otherwise, call us at 243-4289 and follow the prompts to contact the desired Center location.  Because not all locations have a dedicated phone line, you may also contact the campus regional coordinator for more information.

    Virtual and Email Tutoring

Whether you're taking an online class or you simply don't have extra time on campus to speak with a tutor face-to-face, the Writing Center can offer you may options for distance tutoring.  This semester, we're offering tutoring through Skype for the first time.  For more information and directions on how to use this new service, please click on the left hand menu.

If you take classes at one of the regional campuses that only offers tutoring one or two days a week, maybe TelePresence tutoring is best for you.  If you've never used this technology before, don't worry.  Your tutor can walk you through it--and it will feel just like you're sitting across the table.  There are TelePresence tutors available five days a week.  For an appointment, email szjohnson[at] matcmadison [dot] edu (Sarah Z. Johnson)

On the other hand, if a straightforward email tutoring session is more your speed, we have an online tutor who will be happy to help you through email exchange.  For directions on submitting a draft to the Writing Center Online, click on the left hand menu.

    Writing Center Workshops

Working on a research paper? Don't know your MLA from your APA? Or perhaps your participles dangle no matter what you do? We have a workshop for that!

We're offering four targeted workshops this fall on topics ranging from incorporating research to identifying run-ons.  For more information, click on the Workshops link in the lefthand menu.
