    The program offers learners several certificate options that will meet the needs of their individual situation. These certificates are available online:


    QUALITY MANAGEMENT CERTIFICATE
    This certificate features a course of study designed to teach skills that are necessary for implementing the concepts of quality improvement or continuing process improvement in a service, manufacturing or government organization. The program contains four related courses that are basic to the process of quality improvement. Upon completion of all four courses, the learner will receive 12 academic credits and a certificate that recognizes concentrated study in a particular field. It is not mandatory, but, ideally, the curriculum will be taken in sequence.
     
    Courses:
       10-185-110     Managing for Quality     3 credits
    Examines the manager’s role in a quality-focused organization. Students will be introduced to the four basic functions of management as practiced in an environment that focuses on employee participation. The management philosophies of Crosby, Deming, and Juran will be presented. The concept of teams and teamwork, and variation and implementation strategies are introduced.
     
       10-185-111     Understanding Organizational Change     3 credits
    Analyze the process or organizational change. Shows students how to be agents for change, and how to deal with resistance to change. Students will understand how to implement and standardize project improvements. An organizational model for total quality improvement will be presented.
     
       10-185-112     Employee Involvement in Quality     3 credits
    Explore the importance of groups in improving quality and productivity. The stages of group development and factors that affect group performance will be identified. Students will also be introduced to team building, team facilitation, and conflict resolution.
     
       10-185-116     Intro to Six Sigma and  ISO 9000     3 credits
    This course will provide learners with the Introduction to QS/ISO 9000 standards and Six Sigma approaches for system improvement and their uses in lowering costs associated with waste, rework and process variation. Each learner will have the opportunity to practice the processes of planning, documenting, implementing, assessing and maintaining a quality system through the application of these concepts using their own work experience.

    PERSONAL SKILLS FOR SUPERVISORS (BASIC) CERTIFICATE  (Interim Session Only)
    Making the transition to supervisor is one of the most difficult transitions in any management position. The increased demands for productivity, efficient management of resources and a productive workforce will have a definite impact physically and mentally on any new supervisor. The Personal Skills for Supervisors Certificates can help make that transition a bit easier by providing the knowledge and skill applications necessary to deal with this added responsiblity.

    In ASSERTIVE MANAGING, the learner applies the skills and tools necessary to perform the functions of a frontline manager/leader. Each learner will demonstrate the application of strategies and transition to a contemporary supervisory role. This course is designed to improve the management skill of behaving assertively. The student will learn how to develop each aspect of assertiveness through explanations of personality and psychological concepts, guidelines for
    word choices and behavior, and participating in skill practices of assertive behaviors.

    In STRESS MANAGEMENT, the learner applies the skills and tools necessary to perform the functions of a frontline manager/leader. Each learner will demonstrate the application of strategies and transition to a contemporary supervisory role as it pertains to managing the stress that comes with greater responsibility for people, processes and resources.  The course seeks to improve a person’s ability to recognize sources of stress and to suggest methods of effectively dealing with stress. By successfully managing stress a supervisor can improve relationships and performance, both on and off the job. It will equip students with the knowledge and skills necessary to manage their own stress, and the tools necessary for helping employees with stress related issues.

    In the course TIME MANAGEMENT, the learner applies the skills and tools necessary to perform the functions of a frontline manager/leader. Each learner will demonstrate the application of strategies to function efficiently and effectively in a contemporary supervisory role. This course provides tools for evaluating how time is being spent. It focuses on identifying time wasters and improving the use of available hours. It is intended to improve managerial efficiency and effectiveness.

       10-196-138   Managing Conflict & Change   1credit      Course Outline of Instruction                           

    In the course MANAGING CONFLICT & CHANGE the learner examines workplace conflict and its relationship to organizational change. It explores the causes of conflict and identifies strategies for management and improvement. The learner will also examine the necessary skills for managing change. The primary focus will be on identification, strategizing and overcoming resistance to change.
