Madison Area Technical College can move forward with plans to expand its west campus.

The MATC District Board voted Thursday to allow the college to pursue a lease to occupy the entire building at 302 S. Gammon Rd., the former Famous Footwear corporate headquarters.

MATC first opened the west campus in August and currently leases two of the four floors of the building, as well as the basement. This will allow them to rent the other two floors, at a cost of about $822,480 per year in rent, utilities, and maintenance, plus about $1.1 million in furniture and equipment.

The addition will be enough space for 18 classrooms, a campus library, learning center, conference rooms, offices and storage.
