Differences Between High School and College for Students with Disabilities
You may be well aware of what your student's rights and responsibilities
were in the High School setting. The following will illustrate how this
changes now that he/she is in college.
High Schools have the Responsibility to:

- Provide an assessment
- Classify the disability according to specific diagnostic
criteria
Post-secondary level institutions have the responsibility to:
- Inform students about Disability Resource Services and procedures
for requesting accommodations
- Provide access to programs and services
- Inform students of their rights and responsibilities
The college student has the responsibility to:
- Self-identify or disclose their disability to the designated office
for disability
- Obtain and provide documentation to the designated
office
- Act as an independent adult
