Note-Taking Accommodations for Qualified Students Students Disabilities
Purpose of Note-Taking Accomodations
Note-taking services are available for qualified students with disabilities
to ensure equal access to in-class information for qualified students
with disabilities.
Note-taking is not designed to substitute for the participation of a
student in classes. The note-taking service does not include extra information,
explanation, coaching or tutoring assistance.
Key Steps/Procedures
Key Points
Note-takers are solicited (anonymously if requested by the student),
in class, by the instructor. An instructor may also choose to provide
the student with his/her own lecture notes in lieu of a student note-taker.
If no one volunteers as an in-class note-taker, or if the note-taker
notifies the student in advance that he/she will be absent, DRS will
help the student explore backup note-taking procedures, such as obtaining
notes from the instructor or tape-recording the lecture.
DRS will purchase the notes from the note-takers at the rate of $50 per class
credit hour. If a student is taking notes for multiple students in the same
class, he/she will receive $25 per class credit hour for each additional student.
Note-takers may elect to receive a DRS letter of recommendation in lieu of
payment.
If the student receiving notes is dissatisfied with the notes for any
reason and no agreement can be reached, the note-taker will be terminated
and a new note-taker will be solicited. If the student receiving
notes withdraws from the class, he/she must inform the note-taker and
DRS within 24 hours.
Note: Student are required to attend class in order to receive
class notes.
