Gerard Xavier, Counselor
My name is Gerard Xavier, and I have worked for MATC Counseling Services as a counselor since 2000. Prior to my joining MATC, I was employed as a vocational rehabilitation counselor by the State of Wisconsin.
I have a Masters degree from the University of Wisconsin-Madison in Rehabilitation Counseling Psychology and a Bachelor's degree in Psychology and Political Science from the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater.
My approach to counseling is focused on the individual needs of the student and how the success of the student can be best achieved. I have extensive experience in the areas of disability issues, mental health, suicide risk assessment, career/academic counseling conflict management and financial literacy/management. In addition to my counseling responsibilities, I also teach College Success courses and present workshops on Financial Literacy in such courses as College Success and Psychology. I coordinate the MATC Foundation's short-term loan program in conjunction with the Financial Aid office. I serve as the faculty advisor for the College Democrats student club.
I enjoy my work immensely and welcome the opportunity to work with you.
