Youth Apprenticeship — On-the-job training and advanced coursework

High school students in the MATC district have an opportunity to participate in a one- or two-year youth apprenticeship program.
Apprentices work in a specific business or industry that links hands-on skill training to technical classroom concepts. Youth apprentices are paid an hourly wage, and successful completion of an apprenticeship program, students receive a skills certificate from the Department of Workforce Development. They can then receive advanced standing at MATC in a specific program.
High school students interested in apprenticeship training should contact their high school guidance counselors or School-to-Career coordinator for information and application forms. They can help you discover opportunities for work experience, certified co-ops, or job shadowing and how they can work into your high school schedule.
The youth apprenticeship programs are coordinated through the CESA 5, Dane County, and Jefferson County School to Career Programs and for more information (links below).
Credit for Coursework
If you complete a two-year Youth Apprenticeship Program through the state of Wisconsin, you may earn MATC credit if your technical college program is similar. Present a youth apprenticeship completion certificate to MATC at the time of registration to see how credits for your apprenticeship apply to an MATC program. For more information:
