Associate in Arts & Associate in Science Liberal Studies Degrees
These degrees are designed for students who seek a broad general education. Degrees are awarded upon successful completion of program requirements and electives comprising 64 semester credits. The associate in science degree is earned by students whose liberal studies coursework emphasizes mathematics and science. The associate in arts degree is earned by students whose liberal studies coursework emphasizes the social sciences and humanities. Students wishing to continue studies at a four-year college or university after earning the associate in arts or associate in science degree should consult the receiving institution for the most accurate information about the transfer of degree coursework.
Liberal Arts Transfer Program: College Transfer Option
The College Transfer Option provides courses comparable and corresponding to those generally required in the first two years of majors offered by four-year colleges and universities, thereby facilitating transfer to a four-year institution.
Students enrolled in the Liberal Arts Transfer Program are advised to schedule courses that meet the requirements of their chosen four-year college. Students should contact the college or university where they intend to transfer for advice on specific courses they should take for entering their major fields.
Qualified students in associate degree technical programs, with consent of the dean/chairperson of the particular division, may substitute courses from the Liberal Arts Transfer Program to satisfy technical program requirements.
Individualized Technical Studies Degree
This associate degree program permits a qualified individual to plan a unique program of study to meet his/her own career goals. An occupational advisor from business industry and an MATC advisor provide direction in identification of the knowledge and skills required for success in achieving those goals. Existing MATC courses become components of the program. Courses include general education, mathematics and science, and specific technical core courses that may be selected from two or more traditional program areas. The standard 64-72 planned semester-hours of study are required to earn the Associate of Applied Science Degree in Technical Studies.
Advanced Technical Certificates
Designed for professionals with work experience or students who have already completed some training
in a degree program, Advanced Technical Certificates offer opportunities for skill enhancement and professional growth. Admissions requirements for ATCs often include evidence of prior related coursework or work experience. MATC is offering
a growing number of these targeted, short-term advanced technical certificates, especially in areas
of health, business and art.
Certificates
MATC offers a wide variety of short-term certificates in addition to its broad range of degrees and diplomas. Certificates are collections of courses that give the learner a specific and desirable set of competencies, often keyed to recent changes in the workplace. These courses usually count toward more complete degrees and diplomas but can often provide the learner a jump start on emerging occupational trends. In addition, employers increasingly find these certificates useful since they give evidence of specific and valuable skills possessed by the learner.
