About the Program

This course builds on the EMT-Basic curriculum. Students learn advanced patient assessment, communication skills and beginning advanced life support interventions. This course meets the educational requirements for licensure in Wisconsin. Prerequisite: EMT-Basic. The Department of Health and Family Services may set other requirements.

Program outcomes state what a graduate needs to be able to do with the essential knowledge, attitudes, skills, and behaviors acquired in a specific MATC program. The program outcomes communicate expectations to students, as well as other academic institutions and potential employers. The identification and assessment of program outcomes support MATC's efforts in documenting student learning and provide a context for the faculty's academic planning.

Admissions Requirements for All Applications Submitted for the Current Academic Year

  • Students must be 18 years old. Student must be 18 years old to take the National Registry certification exam and apply for Wisconsin EMT Licensure at the Basic level.
  • Valid Wisconsin licensure and an EMT Basic license. Students must have successfully completed the EMT-Basic course and hold a current Wisconsin EMT Basic license.
  • Students must have a CPR at the current healthcare provider level. It must be current.
  • Students must complete a Criminal History Background Check as required by the State for licensure and clinical sites. This is required for clinical site attendance.
  • Upon acceptance into the program, students are required to have a physical exam and all immunizations must be current.
