Admission Requirement Information
APPLICATION PROCESS
The Associate Degree Nursing program has a large number of applicants. Currently, the Madison location waiting list is approximately 2-3 years from the semester for which you apply for. The Reedsburg location waiting list is approx 1-2 years from the semester for which you apply for. The Watertown location waiting list is approx 1-2 years from the semester for which you apply for. Apply to the location that is most feasible for you to drive to, from your primary living location. A Computerized Random Selection (CRS) process will be used to assign qualified applicants to a place on the waiting list according to their application processing complete date.

The following materials must be on file at MATC in order to have a complete application.
- Completed Application form, paper or online. Campus and semester must be selected, and must be one for which applications are currently being accepted. There is a $5.00 online fee per application being submitted.
- Check or money order for the one-time application fee of $30.00. Exception: If you have previously paid this fee for an MATC program, you have already fulfilled the fee requirement.
- Official high school or GED/HSED transcripts. *
- Official college transcripts from all colleges previously attended. *
- ACT, SAT, COMPASS, or ASSET. Exception: If you have a Bachelor’s Degree, this requirement is waived for the application purpose, but Mandatory Advising and Placement into classes may still require testing.
* If high school, GED/HSED and/or college transcripts are on file at MATC, they do not need to be submitted again. You may contact the Enrollment Center @ (608) 246-6210 or (800) 322-6282 ext. 6210 if you would like to verify that your transcripts are on file.
* To obtain your transcripts, contact your High School, GED/HSED Testing Center, and all Post-secondary Institutions you have attended and request an official transcript be sent directly to the school.
The application materials may be submitted online or to any Regional Campus, Downtown Education Center or the Enrollment Center, Room 159, at the Truax Campus; via mail or in-person.
*** Applications can be submitted starting September 1 for the following Fall, and Jan. 16 for the following Spring.

- Residency: Per Wisconsin TCS-10 statue, out of state and out-of-district residents are not permitted to be placed on a waiting list for a program that closes prior to the non-resident processing date. It is the applicant’s responsibility for proving his/her residency information. Please check with the Enrollment Center for further details (608) 246-6210 or 1-800-322-6282 ext. 6210.
- Course Requirements
All of the following requirements for admissions must be previously completed or you must be currently enrolled in the courses when the application is submitted.
Courses:
Chemistry
Two semesters of high school chemistry, which include lab components, with a C or better each semester. Chemistry for the Community (ChemCom) or Chemistry for Society or similar
classes are not acceptable. OR
One semester of college-level chemistry course: General Chemistry (10-806-134), or a higher lever course with a grade of C or better.
Algebra
Algebra: competency demonstrated through satisfactory competency test scores. OR
One semester of college-level Algebra: Elementary Algebra (10-804-110) or a higher level course with a grade of C or better.
ONCE YOU ARE PLACED ON THE WAITING LIST
- Pay your $50 waiting list deposit to remain on the list
This fee applies towards your tuition upon registration into classes.
- Take your Pre-Nursing Requirements (must be taken prior to being eligible for acceptance into core courses)
The Nursing Assistant (30-543-300), Anatomy and Physiology I (20-806-207), Anatomy and Physiology 2 (20-806-208), Microbiology (20-806-273), Intro to Psychology (20-809-231) and Developmental Psychology (20-809-233) must be taken prior to being eligible for core classes and acceptance into the Nursing program for Fall 2009. All general education classes will be required prior to Fall 2010 acceptance.
- Science and General Studies Requirements
Students are also strongly encouraged to complete all listed general education requirements while they are on the waiting list and before beginning the first nursing course for Fall 2009. All general education classes will be required prior to Fall 2010 acceptance.
Licensed Practical Nurses applying for the Associate Degree Nursing Program
Practical Nurses have the option of applying to the Associate Degree Nursing program to begin in the third semester of the Associate Degree Nursing program curriculum. Interested students need to:
- meet the Associate Degree Nursing program’s admission requirements,
- apply into the Associate Degree Nursing program during an open application processing timeframe,
- submit documentation of Practical Nursing graduation or have it on file here at MATC,
- submit documentation of licensure (attach a copy of current, non-expired license),
- complete all the program’s required general studies classes or be in progress at the time of application,
- take the NLN challenge exam if it has been 10 or more years since completion of the Practical Nursing program.
Practical Nursing students planning to continue to the Associate Degree Nursing program can take the following alternatives:
- Intro to Psychology & Developmental Psychology instead of Growth & Development
- Anatomy & Physiology I & II instead of Body Structure & Function
