The Business Software Applications Specialist Program gives the student an understanding of the general business activities required of office employees. Software skills, along with customer service and interpersonal skills, are emphasized. To succeed as a Business Software Applications Specialist, students should have a mastery of software skills, a mastery of English fundamentals, enjoy working with people, enjoy problem solving and be detail oriented. This program is also available completely online.

Graduates of this program typically earn $16,500 to $37,500 per year.

Program outcomes state what a graduate needs to be able to do with the essential knowledge, attitudes, skills, and behaviors acquired in a specific MATC program. The program outcomes communicate expectations to students, as well as other academic institutions and potential employers. The identification and assessment of program outcomes support MATC's efforts in documenting student learning and provide a context for the faculty's academic planning.

Certification Information

The following certificates can help you get hired, promoted or update your skills. These certificates are essential for work in today's modern offices.

  • MATC Certificate in Microsoft Office - The basic certificate courses are available online or in the classroom and can be achieved in one semester. If you completed the courses for these certificates complete the certificate form to receive an official certificate from the Business Technology Department
  • Certified Professional Secretary and Certified Administrative Professional - Both are internationally recognized professional certification programs for administrative staff and are administered by International Association of Administrative Professionals.  The Certified Professional Secretary (CPS) began in 1951; the Certified Administrative ProfessionalCM (CAPCM) program was launched in 2001.  The CAP certification requires successful completion of one-and-one-half-day, four-part written examination (three of the parts are identical to the CPS requirements).  Both require an experience component.  For more information on the program or the more than 250 testing sites (some international sites are available) near you, go to http://www.iaap-hq.org and select “Professional Certification." MATC courses can prepare you to achieve these certifications. For more information, contact Linda Williams at (608) 246-6369.
