International Partnerships
International partner institutions provide opportunities for student and faculty exchange, study abroad, and opportunities for sharing of curriculum and global perspectives on teaching and learning. Online or other distance education projects are encouraged to facilitate international interaction and intercultural communication between students and faculty who remain on their home campuses. Many international partnerships support other community and regional initiatives including sister city and sister state programs that build on existing international partnerships. MATC welcomes inquiries for new international partnerships that can provide mutually beneficial ties between the Madison area and other global communities.

Germany
The state of Wisconsin has a formal Sister State relationship with the state of Hessen, Germany. Originally signed in 1978, and reaffirmed in 2002, this relationship encourages cooperation between Hessen and Wisconsin at the levels of technical education, university education and work force development. Hessen is located in the geographical center of Germany and features the major business, banking and stock exchange center of Frankfurt, the capital of Wiesbaden, the confluence of the Rhine and Main rivers in the south, and beautiful forests and rolling hills which support the huge wood and lumber industries in the north.
MATC has fostered two separate and distinct sister college relationships within Hessen: one with the Kaethe-Kollwitz-Schule in the university city of Marburg and the other with the Holzfachschule (Wood Industry College) in the town of Bad Wildungen. Among many potential outcomes and goals of these relationships are student and faculty exchanges (one-way and two-way), internships and workplace experiences, sharing of curriculum, joint projects at the program level, economic development opportunities, and a general enhancement of global awareness, diverse culture and international understanding.
Kaethe-Kollwitz-Schule, Marburg
Located in the Lahn River valley in Hessen, Kathe-Kollwitz-Schule is a technical and higher education facility with specialties in Hospitality and Tourism, Gastronomy, Social Care and Health. College information (mostly in German) is available online (www.kks-marburg.de). Offerings developed jointly between MATC and Kathe-Kollwitz-Schule include a team-taught course in Global Tourism that provides opportunities for MATC students to travel to Marburg and Marburg students to visit MATC. There are also opportunities on a case-by-case basis for MATC students to participate in internships in Germany. Interested students should contact the international programs coordinator.
Holzfachschule, Bad Wildungen The Holzfachschule (abbreviated HFW and translated as Wood Industry Technical College) is located in the town of Bad Wildungen, county of Waldeck-Frankenberg, in the far northern part of Hessen. The most heavily wooded area in Germany, making it the ideal location for industries and education targeted at the timber, lumber, construction and manufacturing fields. The HFW offers occupational programs in model building, wood/timber processing, wood manufacturing, and continuing education for master craftsmen. College information is available (in German) online (www.holzfachschule.de). MATC’s partnership with the college highlights the mutual exchange of information, the exchange of experience and possibilities of international trade relations, technical and professional training, and cultural exchanges with faculty and students.
Northern Ireland
MATC established a Sister College relationship with Fermanagh College in Enniskillen, Northern Ireland, in January 2000. Located in the lakes region of Fermanagh County in southwestern Northern Ireland, Fermanagh College is a technical and higher education facility with specialties in travel and tourism, hospitality and catering, health and social care, and other programs. College information is available online (www.fermanaghcoll.ac.uk). Offerings developed jointly between MATC and Fermanagh include a team-taught course in global tourism that provides opportunities for MATC students to travel to Fermanagh and Fermanagh students to visit MATC.
