Residential Wirer
Residential wirers work with blueprints and code to install and maintain electrical circuits, wiring systems for residential buildings. In the first year, they learn electrical theory, code, blueprint reading and mathematics and how these apply to electrical circuits and wiring systems. In year two, they continue this learning and build on it with skills in reading, analyzing and laying out circuits. Material covered includes branch circuits, wire sizing, circuits and feeders, panel boards, wiring methods, circuit planning, and safety and control systems. In the last year of the apprenticeship, participants learn about wiring applications such as loan calculations, low volt systems, motors, home automation, security systems, fire alarms, fiber optics and computers.
