Painting for Pleasure with Gladys Grieger
Gladys Grieger has taught Painting classes for MATC Adult and Continuing Education for over twenty years. As a teacher, she is extremely proud of the artistic achievements of all of her class participants. Grieger said, “Teaching makes me a better artist. I continue to learn from my students, as they learn from me.”
“Painting for Pleasure” classes are composed of students of varying backgrounds and life experiences. Gladys's classes are held at the Waunakee Middle School and also at the Waunakee Village Center . | |
Some students sign up for the class to awaken their artistic skills, while others are accomplished artists who join the class to sharpen their techniques and to receive inspiration from a group setting. Some have taken Gladys' classes for many years. Gladys said, “As a teacher, it is my job to demonstrate painting techniques and my goal to introduce or reinforce the idea that painting can be a form of self expression and a pleasurable pursuit.”
| Gladys gives the students a picture from which to paint; for example, a red barn in the middle of a snow storm, was the subject matter for a recent class. The students learn techniques and methods that they can use to create their own interpretation of the class project. Each student developed their own version of the red barn, and all are beautifully done! Gladys said, “It continues to amaze me to see the end results of this process!” |

Below are photos of some of Glady's students from a recent art show in Waunakee. One student shown below and left has won blue ribbons at the Lodi Area Fair and Columbia County Fair for her paintings. She won “Best of Show” for two of her paintings at an Art Show at a recent Lodi Fair.
Another of Gladys's students says, “This has been a life changing experience for me. I started her classes at a time in my life that was very stressful. Art is very relaxing and enjoyable. I am a whole new person thanks to Gladys and her Painting for Pleasure classes.”
