WEEKLY DEADLINE : WEDNESDAY AT NOON |
Dear Faculty and Staff,I have learned so much in the last few months as we have started to examine the processes at the college in order to proceed with the MATC reorganization. As you know, the main reason for the reorganization is to better serve our students, and the main strategy for reorganizing is to look at our processes. Along with Vice President for Strategic Effectiveness Rebecca Baumbach and Interim CIO for DoETS Rick Graves, I have been asking you to evaluate the effectiveness of various processes you are involved in here at the college.
I'm glad to say that your input has helped. The college will be reorganized into three major groupings that correspond with the three major areas that were illustrated on the original circle diagram we shared with you in May through messages and presentations. You may remember that students and community were at the center, followed by learning, support for learning, and vision.
The three new areas are:
Learner Success
Infrastructure Services
Strategic AdvancementIn looking at the processes at the college and how they intersect and overlap, we've determined that all processes fall under the larger umbrella of one of these three main groupings.
We are currently working on leadership positions for these three areas. Throughout the months of July and August, we will work with departments in Infrastructure Services and Strategic Advancement to assess their processes and determine with which of the three major areas they align.
Then, when faculty return in August, we will seek their input to better understand how to organize the Learner Success unit. We will continue to work with faculty throughout the Fall Semester.
By August 23-24 Convocation Days, we expect to announce more details about the configuration of the Infrastructure Services unit and the Strategic Advancement unit. By January 2006, we expect to announce changes for the Learner Success unit.
Until the next announcement, I would like to invite and urge you to visit ReOrg 101, an online repository of information and documentation of the MATC reorg. The site is hosted in Blackboard, which many of you may already use with your classes or workteams.
At ReOrg 101, you will find specific meeting notes, timelines, announcements from me, and other documents that detail the process we are using to better organize the college. For example, the position announcements for the vice presidents of Infrastructure Services and Learner Success will be posted by Wednesday, June 29. (As I announced earlier in each of the listening sessions, Rebecca Baumbach will continue to serve as the vice president in the newly titled Strategic Advancement area and will continue to lead organizational transformation efforts.)
We encourage you to contribute any comments, questions, or ideas related to the reorganization to the Reorg 101 discussion board.
To visit ReOrg 101:
As always, I'd like to thank you for your honest input and patience with this process.
-- Bettsey

WATCH FOR PILOT OF EMPLOYEE NEWS WEBSITE BEGINNING JULY
11 !
Next week&emdash;the week of the July 4th holiday&emdash;there will be no publication of the Staff Bulletin. The following week, beginning July 11, look for an email announcing MATC Matters, a new website replacing the Staff Bulletin. MATC Matters will feature expanded news and information for MATC faculty and staff. If our pilot of MATC Matters goes smoothly, we plan for it to become the main source of published news for MATC employees.
Almost any type of news or announcement you normally would publish in the Staff Bulletin or send to GW All will be appropriate for MATC Matters. It also will offer regular news, photos and feature stories. A major improvement of our news site over the Staff Bulletin is that your news can be posted to MATC Matters every day of the week, rather than just weekly. The site will be updated and refreshed daily. You'll receive weekly emails with the latest headlines and a reminder to visit the MATC Matters site.
If you would like to contribute news to be published in the first posting of MATC Matters on July 11, please contact Cayce Dumont, our internal communications specialist working in Institutional Marketing and Public Relations, at edumont@matcmadison.edu or 246-6287. If you previously sent your Staff Bulletin items to Denise O'Rourke, you simply can email them now to Cayce. Once MATC Matters is up and running, it will be even easier for you to send news items by using the site's easy submission form.
