WEEKLY DEADLINE : WEDNESDAY AT NOON

President's Message

Dear Faculty and Staff,

I hope you enjoyed a great Father's Day and are ready to tackle our second week of summer classes.

MATC Marvels

Last week the DTEC was buzzing with faculty members attending the Learning Academy coordinated by Patrick Barlow, staff development coordinator, and Sandy Philip, technology training coordinator, along with team members Wendy Arena, adult basic ed instructor; Maxine Goldberg, reading/college success instructor; Betty Hurd, fashion marketing instructor; Gwen Torkelson, assessment manager; and Geraldo VilaCruz, counselor.

MATC has once again received the Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial reporting from the Governor Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada. I would like to recognize the accounting team that made this possible:

Accounting Staff - Ryan Liebert, Bonny Laufenberg

Accounts Receiveable Staff - Amy Brown, Cathy Frank, Alane Spatola

Accounts Payable Staff - Sherrie Orcholski, Patty Whisenant, BJ Landgraf, Susan Vedvig

Payroll Staff - Patty Pilsner, Amy Krumenauer, Brian Nesbit, Kate Burr, Melissa Lapp

Purchasing Staff - Sandy Middleton, Linda Geier, Jan West

Bursar Office Staff - Gladys McKay-Lenius, Judy Nelson, Martha Klaila, Terry Wermuth, Karen Gretschmann, Tonya Vertein, Patty Keena-Brigson, Jim Ackerman

To have the quality of work you do on a daily basis confirmed by such a rigorous outside review is a high statement to the quality of work that you do every day.  Way to go!!!

I want to remind all of you who are participating in flex schedules this summer: don't forget to change your outgoing voice mail to reflect your summer flex hours!

To help students, potential students, our colleagues and other customers during the summer flex schedule, you may want your voice mail to include notice of your hours. You may also want to let callers know when they may expect a return call if they leave a message for you and include the name and phone number of a colleague who can assist them while you are out. Make sure the colleague will indeed be present on your off-day, and that he/she is equipped to appropriately answer the questions or take a message. This information is invaluable when students or parents call or when a colleague is trying to re-direct a visitor or caller to the college.

Highlights of my week:

  • On Monday I served on a student engagement symposium panel at the League for Innovation's Learning College Summit held in Oak Brook, Illinois. There were 250 people in the audience of which five were MATC staff, and the following MATC folks were presenters at the conference: Kate Grovergrys, spanish instructor; Jody Thrush, dean of Arts and Sciences; and Alda Preston, associate dean of Alternative Learning.
  • Tuesday morning I welcomed the faculty attending the Learning Academy and had a chance to listen to a portion of special guest Dr. Rita Smilkstein's talk about brain-based learning for student success.
  • I also attended College Council Tuesday afternoon as well as the Madison Symphony Orchestra's annual meeting.
  • On Wednesday I had the opportunity to meet Robert D'Angelo, the president and CEO of the Overture Center for the Arts. I also attended the Automotive Technology student orientation at Truax.
  • I visited with Joanne Berg, UW-Madison associate vice chancellor for academic staff, to talk about UW-Connections, and met with MATC board trustee Judy Ecker and new board member Jon Bales.
  • Friday morning I visited the Barber/Cosmetology Program and attended the Governor's press conference at the TEC Center.

Limited Mail Center Services June 16 through 28 &
Change of Location for Exterior Mail Collection Box at Truax
Please note that list cleaning, address/ASN inkjetting and Non-Profit mailings will not be available from June 16 through June 28. If you have large bulk mailings, other than First Class Mail, we have the capabilities of sending it off campus at your expense.

Those of you looking for the mail collection box which was outside the door between the Admin building and the main building, it was moved for the summer. It is now located directly south of the Admin building by the bridge. This move was necessary to accommodate the construction in the 25-minute parking lot. Collection time remains the same. The mailbox will be moved back to its original location when the construction is completed in August.

Thank you for your understanding. Any questions, call Gerry at 246-6305 or Scott at 246-6018.

GET INVOLVED!
The Combined Charitable Campaign is a college work team in search of its next leader and committee members. In a leader, the Combined Charitable Campaign seeks someone who will coordinate an excellent and hard-working committee to raise funds from MATC faculty and staff for local organizations that make a difference in our community. In committee members, the Combined Charitable Campaign seeks staff/faculty members who are passionate about the social service, environmental, and health organizations in our community, and who are willing to follow through with one or two tasks related to the campaign. Some refer to this campaign as the "United Way" campaign, and it is different from the MATC Foundation's Faculty/Staff Campaign, which raises funds for scholarships and programs here at MATC.

Interested? Come to our next organizational meeting on Thursday, June 16, at noon in room 387 at Truax. If you have questions or if you can't make the meeting, but want to participate, email Sarah Fowles at sfowles@matcmadison.edu.
