WEEKLY DEADLINE : WEDNESDAY AT NOON |
Dr. Findlen Announces Retirement PlansDr. Rose Ann Findlen announced today that over the summer she will step down from the position of Provost For Learning. Dr. Findlen will assume other administrative responsibilities through June 30, 2006, when she plans to retire.
Dr. Findlen has served the College in a number of high level administrative positions since 1993, serving as Vice President of Student Services, Administrative Dean of Arts and Sciences, Provost For Learning and, for a fifteen month period, Acting President.
Dr. Findlen was recognized by the Board in November for her dedication, talent and hard work as she performed both the jobs of Provost For Learning and Acting President.
Dr. Findlen looks forward to her new responsibilities. Dr. Findlen stated "the time is right for me to transition away from the day-to-day activities as the College moves into the future. I appreciate all of the support that my colleagues have provided to me."
John Ashley
MATC District Board Chair
Dear Faculty and Staff,I hope everyone had a relaxing, enjoyable Memorial Day weekend. While reflecting on the sacrifices of the members of our armed forces for preserving our freedoms, note that two more members of the MATC family recently have been called to active duty: Peter Grafton, senior network specialist, and Adam Mekschun, retired bookstore manager. We wish them safety and a quick return home.
By the way, some members of the U.S. forces overseas (Iraq and elsewhere) visited our web-based video of the MATC Commencement ceremony. There have been 3,128 visits total to the webpage, with 286 of those visitors watching the ceremony while it was actually happening via the live stream.
MATC Marvels
Each week, I like to highlight some marvelous people I encounter or learn about here at the college. Here are this week's "favorite teachers", as mentioned to me by an entire class on campus and one student off campus: Karen Redfield, English instructor, and Lynn Goetsch, dental hygiene program director.Other MATC Marvels
MATC is one of seven Wisconsin technical colleges selected to participate in rescue training activities for Wisconsin's Heavy Task Force members. The Heavy Task Force is funded by the Wisconsin Office of Justice Assistance, which receives special funding from the federal office of Homeland Security to ensure that we are prepared for disaster response and recovery. Recently, MATC had to make a formal presentation to the Office of Justice Assistance to show that we would be good candidates for the training. Thanks to MATC staff Joy McMillan, Kevin Myren, June Sarbacker, Anne Scott, Kathy Sellnow, Dick Shold, John Stransky and Terry Webb for their help in these efforts.Kudos to Ed Clarke, vice president for Strategic Innovations, for his active economic development awareness and on-the-mark comments in Sunday's Wisconsin State Journal article in the business section. You can read the article, titled "New Push To Expand Corporate Base Here," online at: http://www.madison.com/archives/read.php?ref=wsj:2005:05:29:417335:BUSINESS.
Summer flex time goes into full swing next week. Let's try to keep Fridays as a "light day." When possible, do not schedule large meetings on Fridays over the summer. I hope each department can work together to make everyone's schedule as adaptable as possible.
