Congratulations to the 2004 Outstanding Employee and Team of the Year Award Recipients!Madison Area Technical College (MATC) kicked off its new school year with a positive start by honoring eight Outstanding Employees of the Year. The outstanding employees for 2004 are David Chastain, AODA specialist; Terry Christensen, instructional media specialist; Douglas Kirchberg, student publications coordinator; Rocio Martinez, counselor; Brian Nesbit, senior payroll specialist; Kristin Rauls, administrative assistant; Jeganathan "Sri" Sriskandarajah, mathematics instructor; and Kathy Waters, mail center lead worker.
The Outstanding Team of the Year Award went to the staff of the college's Watertown Campus. In addition, Brian Glodowski, food service cashier, received the Devi Barghava Staff/Faculty Recognition Award given to staff members who contribute to the understanding of the issues of students with disabilities.
The Impact of the Coming Presidential Election on U.S. Foreign Policy by Jim Garrison

Jim Garrison is president of the State of the World Forum, which he cofounded with Mikhail Gorbachev in 1995, and which exists as the largest forum of world leaders outside of the United Nations. He has founded a number of other organizations, including the International Foreign Policy Association and the Gorbachev Foundation/USA. His academic degrees include an MTS from Harvard Divinity School (1975) and a Ph.D. from Cambridge University (1982). Garrison has written six books including Civilization and the Transformation of Power (2000) and the most recent, America as Empire.

Student Add/Drop Fees Swap of Classes
During the first 14 calendar days of the semester, students may transfer 100% of the fees from a dropped class toward an added class only if the add and drop are done in person and at the same time. OPTICAL DISPENSARYThe optical dispensary in room 314 at the Truax campus will be open for services on Friday, September 3rd. Our hours will be Fridays, 12:00-3:00 p.m. Students and staff of MATC are invited to come and look at the large selection of dress and safety glasses available. We have the latest in eyewear fashion and lens materials, all at a significant cost savings. When ordering glasses, you must bring with you a copy of your current prescription (not more than 2 years old). We also provide adjustments and minor eyeglass repairs at no cost. To assure that a technician is available when you come in, we strongly recommend calling (608) 246-6272 for an appointment.

MATC CHOIR
If you are interested in singing, the MATC Community Show Choir would like to encourage you to join us. We meet every Thursday evening from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. from September 9 though December 2, 2004. The culminating feature for the Choir is the Holiday Concert on Sunday, December 5, 2004, at 2:00 p.m. in the Mitby Theatre at MATC Truax Campus. The Choir meets in the choral rehearsal room (101) on the Truax Campus. Anyone interested in joining the Choir is welcome.
