Next Week is National Career and Technical Education Week
Students and faculty will celebrate Career and Technical Education Week, February 8-14. The weeklong celebration emphasizes the role technical education and its business/industry partners play in helping youth and adults enter and progress in the workforce. Research shows that 80% of new jobs require some postsecondary education.  MATC is a nationally ranked two-year college with 92% graduate employment, 97% graduate satisfaction and 99% employer satisfaction. If you know someone that is interested in starting a career, or looking to change careers, refer them to our Counseling Center, which offers free assessment services and career resources. Call 246-6076 to schedule an appointment.

The following week, February 18-20, is the Wisconsin Association for Career & Technical Education (WACTE) annual conference, which will be held at the Madison Marriott West.  See the following message from John Frank,Past President and Conference Chair of WACTE. If you are interested in finding out more about the conference or joining WACTE, go to our website at: http://matcmadison.edu/is/wacte/   or to the state site at http://www.wacteonline.org/.

"Welcome to Leadership For Our Future"
The last three years have been filled with economic difficulty, recession, escalating unemployment, historic budget deficits, and a sluggish recovery.  When faced with so many economic problems, some people prefer to sit back and simply point fingers of blame.
We cannot afford to do that as career and technical education professionals.  As Vince Lombardi said, "when the going gets tough, the tough get going."
Reinvigorating Wisconsin's economy will require a continuing partnership between government, private business, and the education community.  The key to that partnership will be anticipating the state's workforce needs and investing in the career and technical training necessary to insure that Wisconsin workers possess the cutting edge technological skills the future will demand.
Both our individual and collective well-being may well depend on how well we, as educators, respond to that challenge.  As the old adage goes, when faced with a challenge one has three choices: "lead, follow, or get out of the way."
We hope that you will choose to "lead" and join us at our annual conference entitled "Leadership for Our Future."  In addition to two dozen sessions addressing how our collective leadership as a community of secondary and post-secondary career and technical educators will influence the future, there are many opportunities for members to assess their personal, financial, and physical well-being as well.
The message is clear --together, we can mold Wisconsin's economic future and the economic security of future generations.

Thanks and Appreciation

  • Dear MATC friends,
My heartfelt thanks for making my retirement from MATC so meaningful. Thanks for the cards, emails, phone calls, gifts, flowers and for coming to my "surprise" retirement party. The party was truly a surprise after all. A surprise that so many came to wish me well and that so many cared for me. I am retiring from MATC feeling loved, blessed and with many memories, which I will cherish forever.
    LaVonne Gerber
