General Information

MATC Combined Charitable Campaign Kick-off Monday, September 15 at the Truax Campus. It will be held in room 129B&D (lower section of the cafeteria) from 7:30am to 10:30am. Come and meet the representatives from the charitable agencies, hear what United Way volunteer, Mike McKinney from Channel 15 has to say and enjoy coffee, juice and snacks. Turn in your pledge card (which you should have received in your mailbox) at that time and you will be eligible for the drawing of a valuable prize. The MATC Combined Charitable Campaign will run from September 15 to October 3. Following is an example of how one of the many organizations is benefiting from donations.
Camp Wonderland
For youngsters with neuromuscular diseases, Muscular Dystrophy Association's Camp Wonderland is a magical place offering a wide range of activities specially designed for young people who have limited mobility or use wheelchairs. How do the campers feel?
Here's what they say: "I like the independence that the camp gives me, and I love being with my camp friends. This is a chance for us to be the majority - instead of the minority."
The camp programs give participants an unmatched opportunity to develop lifelong friendships, share interests and build self-confidence. Activities range from outdoor sports to less physically demanding programs like art and crafts, computer games, and talent shows. Countless youngsters attend Camp Wonderland each year at no cost to their families.
And how do the volunteers feel?
"After our trip to Camp Wonderland, we feel different. To the kids at camp we're heroes, but to us, the kids are heroes. The camaraderie, friendships and memories will follow me through the rest of my life."
Now, aren't you ready to turn in your pledge card? Stop by room 129B&D of the Truax Campus on Monday, September 15 between 7:30am to 10:30am.

Short-Term Emergency & Book Loans:
Available funds have decreased significantly; so fewer students will be eligible for short-term loans. Instructors are encouraged to place textbooks on reserve in the library until students receive financial aid checks. Students interested in short-term loans must visit with a counselor or regional generalist to discuss their specific situation before eligibility is determined. For more information contact Tim Jacobson (246-6625), tjacobson@matcmadison.edu

Work-Study Initiative:
This new centralized approach of hiring student employees requires supervisors to file job orders with Advising & Career Resources. Students must also submit a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) and a MATC Student Employment Application before hire. Contact Tim Jacobson (246-6625), tjacobson@matcmadison.edu

The optical dispensary in room 314 at Truax campus is now open. Hours are Fridays 12:00 to 3:00pm. Students and staff of MATC are invited to come and look at the large selection of dress and safety glasses available. We have the latest in eyewear fashion and lens materials all at a significant cost savings. When ordering glasses, you must bring with you a copy of your current prescription (not more than 2 years old). We also provide adjustments and minor eyeglass repairs at no cost. To assure that a technician is available when you come in we strongly recommend calling 246-6272 for an appointment.

MATC Nail Salon opens on Oct. 20 at the DTEC in room D029. Hours will be 5:30pm-9:30pm. Please call (608) 258-2404 for an appointment. Services offered are manicure, pedicure, acrylic nails, fiberglass nails, & therabath treatments at a very reasonable cost to staff, students, and the public. We also carry a retail line of nail polish and hair supplies.

Wisconsin Employee Trust Funds Benefit Presentations are set for September-November, 2003.
The Department of Employee Trust Funds and other sponsors will offer 14 free public presentations in September, October, and November for Wisconsin Retirement System participants. Those considering or planning retirement in the near future are encouraged to attend. The workshops are valuable opportunities for members, spouses and other individuals seeking general information on retirement issues and other WRS benefit programs. Topics covered during the presentations include calculating retirement benefits, annuity options, disability benefits, separation benefits, taxes, survivor benefits and health and life insurance benefits. Questions about when to retire and how to determine actual benefits will also be discussed. Each session is free and runs from 7pm to 9pm. All locations are handicapped accessible with adequate free parking. For a list of presentation dates and locations see the bulletin board in the staff lounge on second floor of the Truax Campus or contact Jan Bush at 246-6921, or email her at jbush@matcmadison.edu No reservations are needed except for the Interactive Television presentations identified in the presentation schedule.
