General Information

Information on an important payment plan change from the Bursar's Office: The Credit Agreement has been discontinued, but there is a new payment plan called the Tuition Deferment Agreement. The Tuition Deferment Agreement replaced the Credit Agreement as of summer 2003. The last date to activate the payment plan this semester was August 29th, but for students interested in activating a payment plan in the Spring, the requirements are the same: The student must be enrolled in 6 or more credits for the semester and must activate the plan by signing the Tuition Deferment Agreement Form and paying $100.00. Of the $100.00, $75.00 will go to the tuition balance, while $25.00 is a non-refundable application fee. Anyone interested in learning more about the Tuition Deferment Agreement, or who has questions about their Fall Tuition Deferment Agreement, should contact the Bursar's office at (608) 246-6500. The due date for the Fall Tuition Deferment Agreement is September 23rd.
Judy Nelson, Bursar's Office

Short-Term Emergency & Book Loans:
Available funds have decreased significantly; so fewer students will be eligible for short-term loans. Instructors are encouraged to place textbooks on reserve in the library until students receive financial aid checks. Students interested in short-term loans must visit with a counselor or regional generalist to discuss their specific situation before eligibility is determined. For more information contact Tim Jacobson (246-6625), tjacobson@matcmadison.edu

Work-Study Initiative:
This new centralized approach of hiring student employees requires supervisors to file job orders with Advising & Career Resources. Students must also submit a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) and a MATC Student Employment Application before hire. Contact Tim Jacobson (246-6625), tjacobson@matcmadison.edu

The optical dispensary in room 314 at Truax campus, will be opening for services on Friday, September 5. Hours will be Fridays 12:00 to 3:00pm. Students and staff of MATC are invited to come and look at the large selection of dress and safety glasses available. We have the latest in eyewear fashion and lens materials all at a significant cost savings. When ordering glasses, you must bring with you a copy of your current prescription (not more than 2 years old). We also provide adjustments and minor eyeglass repairs at no cost. To assure that a technician is available when you come in we strongly recommend calling 246-6272 for an appointment.

The first "First Friday" program will be held on September 5, from 2:00 to 3:30pm in Boardroom 2 A&B. Each session after that will be held on, surprise, the first Friday of the month. The "First Friday" sessions will provide an in-depth exposure to various functional areas of the College. Each month a different set of areas will be highlighted. The first session will feature the Human Resources Department. You will have an opportunity to meet many of the individuals you have spoken to during the employment process. You will also learn who to contact for answers to specific questions. This will be a fun, interactive learning opportunity. And, we'll bring treats!
The College believes that these sessions are extremely valuable and new employees are expected to attend. We are asking your supervisors to insure that scheduling problems are addressed so that you will be able to attend.
Again, please make plans to join us for this informative and interesting program. If you have any questions regarding the orientation program, please contact Patrick Barlow at 246-6910 or wbarlow@matcmadison.edu
Thank You
Wm. Patrick Barlow, Staff & Organizational Development Coordinator

An After School Haven:
Through programs like the Cambridge Youth Center, the United Way of Dane County is able to decrease the number of middle and high school youths participating in at-risk behaviors. Read what one middle school student, a ninth grade boy, says about it:
"The Cambridge Youth Center is an alternative to wandering aimlessly around town or go home to an empty house. My friends and me usually went to a house where we knew the parents were gone and partied after school and on weekends. But after we went to a lock-in at the youth center we decided to try going there after school. Because it was cool and fun we started spending more time there and less time partying at someone's house. At the lock-in a speaker talked to us about drugs, alcohol and smoking and I can say for sure that we stopped experimenting with bad things because of the stuff she told us and also because the youth center gave us something else to do. I'm really glad the Cambridge Youth Center is here because I realize now how important it is and I think it can help other middle schoolers make the right decisions."
